In our capacity as academics and artists living in Belgium who stand in solidarity with Palestine, our twin missions are:
- To oppose the ongoing settler-colonial appropriation of Palestine, the decades-long violations of international human rights conventions, and the refusal to comply with United Nations resolutions and rulings of the International Criminal Court.
- To support Palestinian universities and cultural institutions.
In order to advance this dual mission, we will:
- In collaboration with Belgian and European organizations that share the same concerns, put pressure on the European Union to exclude Israel from the European Research Area;
- Develop a strategy that encourages our individual colleagues to sever their professional ties with Israel through actions such as: refusing research collaborations with complicit Israeli institutions; declining to review or evaluate articles or grant applications originating from such institutions; and refusing to participate in academic conferences in Israel;
- Oppose the continuing assault on freedom of expression as well as on academic freedom in relation to Palestine;
- Support campaigns by Palestinian universities calling for an end to the Israeli policy of “scholasticide,” including the destruction of Palestinian school infrastructure and of higher education and research centers necessary for the development of Palestinian society.
